Blog  # 2- Cathy Update  2/11/2024

There is a lot that has happened since 11 January.  Cathy was discharged from Pat Neal on 27 January.  At Pat Neal Cathy learned some basic paraplegic skills and was weaned off some of the more powerful pain drugs and although no real changes were made in her paralysis – coming home day was a big day for Cathy. She is glad to be home. Pipi is glad she is home too.

We are currently settling into Home Health and Cathy is visited weekly by Physical Therapy, occupational Therapy and Nursing.  We are starting to adjust to a new normal.

Cathy began chemotherapy this week. As part of this regiment Cathy has seen both her oncologists and received another MRI. In these follow ups, we have learned another lesion or part of the old lesion has been detected in the lower portion of the spine. After weighing options, the doctors are sticking to the Chemo regiment for now as these drugs have good tumor fighting properties as well as the larger systematic fight.

Cathy is very excited to get Chemo going and she is in pretty good spirits. Chemo cycles are 3-week cycles of 2 weeks on and one week off. “On” means several trips to the hospital and lots of transfers in and out of the wheelchair. These are tough days, often painful and exhausting for Cathy.

Right now, life is mainly just doing human basics and getting Cathy to where she needs to be. We are slowly starting to see a new normal emerge and glimmers of light where other life can happen.

Recently, after my request to organize a meal effort during this Chemo phase, our dear friend and beef partner, Kelly Goble of Kipland Ridge Farm started a meal train page for us.

It’s neat and provides volunteer opportunities throughout the Chemo Phase and into the Spring. Click the link to learn more.

The outpouring of support for Cathy has been extraordinary and we are so very grateful for your love, encouragement, and support. Thank you so very much and may God bless you every day.
